The Insertion Process

Before you put your contact lenses in, wash and dry your hands first. You should stick to an anti-bacterial soap free of perfumes and scents. Follow this up with a lint-free towel.

Place the lens right side up on the tip of your finger. It should gently rest like a small bowl. Then, inspect the lens. Make sure it isn’t torn or damaged, and there is nothing stuck on the lens before placing them in your eye.

Use your other hand to keep your eyelids spread apart. Gently hold your upper eyelid open with one finger and use the other finger to pull your lower eyelid down. Make sure you don’t blink during this process as your eyelashes could get in the way.

Slowly move the contact lens toward your eye and look upwards as you make contact. You can then release your eyelids and let the lens naturally settle. Blink a few times to test your focus. Try looking at different objects at varying distances to ensure your contact is situated in your eye. You can then proceed to place the next contact in the same exact fashion.

Other Tips

If your eyes have different lens powers, you’ll want to make sure you have the correct lenses in at all times. This could affect your vision and cause extreme discomfort otherwise. Also, make sure your lenses aren’t inside out. To check for this, hold the lens on your finger and check the edges. If they flare out, that means they are inside out.
